Synopsis for "Crime on the Run: The Murderous 'Red' Keenan Gang"

The true story of the Keenan Gang in Cleveland Ohio in the 1930s.

NotesEdit

  • This first issue was very typical for its time — an anthology comic peppered with short "funny pages." What is a pleasant surprise is reading the gag pages by artist Jack Cole.
  • Dan Hastings is a feature that used to appear in Centaur Comics, but which now has moved to MLJ/Archie.
  • Foxy Grandpa was a popular comic strip that initially ran from 1900-1918 and then was revised several times. What circumstances lead to Jack Cole doing a new Foxy Grandpa story for this comic in 1939 are unknown, but it's cool, huh?
  • Little Nemo in Slumberland was also an old comic strip, which ran from 1905 to 1927 by Winsor McCay. Windor's son Bob McCay was trying to revive the comic strip in the late 1930s, so the appearance here is probably related to that.
  • This is only appearance of Ima Slooth in an MLJ/Archie comic. The character will later be revived by Chesler Comics in 1944. It is unclear if Archie Comics owns Ima Slooth today.
  • Boodini the Great and King Kole's Court are features that were currently appearing at Centaur Comics, but here they are in an MLJ/Archie comic for one time only. How that happened is unclear.
