Jack Jones (Earth-MLJ)

When a patrolman was gunned down by gangsters, detective Jack Jones was called on the case. On a tip-off, he and two other officers visited the Larson Mansion. Unfortunately, one of the men was part of the gang, and the rendezvou at the mansion was a set-up. After a brief rumble, Jack was knocked out and cemented inside the mansion's walls. He regained consciousness in time to insert a playing card into the still damp cement wall. He then breathed through the thin slit for fresh air.

Meanwhile, the owner of the mansion came home and noticed the card on the floor. He quickly deduced that something was amiss behind the newly installed wall. Smashing through it, he was able to save Jack from suffocating to death. They shared stories with one another, and the man suggested that Jack should remain "dead," and hunt down criminals. Jack agreed, and became the costumed hero known as Black Jack.

By some strange destiny, Black Jack was always linked with cards. Not only did a playing card save his life, and grant him his namesake, but several of his foes had names such as; King of Diamonds, Black Seven and Poker Face.
